National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova met with Roxana Minzatu, European Commission (EC) Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, the Parliament’s press centre reported on Sunday.
Kiselova affirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to improving its economic situation and ensuring the protection of workers’ rights, training opportunities, and fair pay. She noted that the country had experienced a prolonged political crisis marked by a series of snap parliamentary elections, which had delayed the adoption of several legislative amendments needed to align national laws with EU legislation.
“The relevant parliamentary committees have been informed of the delayed bills and are making efforts to move them forward,” Kiselova said.
She emphasized that pro-European political forces currently hold a majority in Parliament and share the understanding that Bulgaria must complete its accession to the European Monetary Union. "They are the guarantee that Bulgaria will successfully take the necessary steps toward the adoption of the single European currency," she added.
Minzatu congratulated Bulgaria on the prospective milestone of joining the euro area and highlighted the importance of addressing the social dimensions of economic integration. She expressed readiness to continue dialogue with Bulgaria on how the EC can best support the country in easing the transition for its most vulnerable groups.
