Seventy-nine foreigners study at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (UniBIT) in Sofia, one is from a European Union country, the educational institution told BTA.
Students from different countries choose the university because of specific programmes, professors and career opportunities, which gives the university the confidence to continue to develop its international programmes, the university added.
Foreign students at UniBIT are mostly from Europe and the Balkans, from Albania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine and Cyprus.
All courses are desired by the prospective students, but there is particular interest in the professional field of informatics and computer science.
Each year the number of foreign students varies depending on the number of places allocated by the Education and Science Ministry for the respective academic year.
“At UniBIT we place emphasis on practical activities, internships and project work during the studies, we encourage critical thinking, independent work, but also teamwork, and we believe that experience is the best teacher. Students learn through real case studies and participation in initiatives of public value. UniBIT's international partnerships and participation in programs such as Erasmus+ are the basis for collaboration with many universities in Europe and beyond, which allows the students mobility and an exchange of experience. Even more attractive are the new generation library and information resources, access to electronic databases, virtual classrooms and training in a digital environment. Last but not least, is the friendly, relaxed and supportive academic environment that makes the adaptation of international students easier. That is why we can say that international students do not come to UniBIT only because of low fees. They are also looking for high quality, up-to-date and practically oriented education that will give them a competitive advantage on the labour market, not only in Bulgaria, but also internationally. The university manages to combine affordability with academic quality and this is exactly what makes it attractive for students from different countries," the educational institution said.
