Speaking to reporters in Simitli, Southwestern Bulgaria, on Monday, Bulgaria’s Interior Minister Daniel Mitov said that migrant pressure along this country’s borders has decreased by 61% compared to last year. Mitov also noted the good cooperation between the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC), the National Police General Directorate (NPGD), and the Border Police.
“Following the Consultative Council on National Security, we have been working in great sync with GDCOC, NPGD, and Border Police. Like a well-oiled machine. They have seized three times more drugs and precursors in the past five months than they did last year. The Border Police have also achieved great results. Border pressure has decrease by 61% compared to last year,” the Minister said.
Mitov noted that efforts have been made and resources have been mobilized to train new border police officers. He added that the increase in personnel was proposed by GERB. The Minister said that a radar system for disabling drones and an improved video surveillance system are being developed. “Crossing the Bulgarian border is becoming increasingly difficult and dangerous and that is why the pressure is lessening,” Mitov said. “We cannot fix everything. This is a large system and it takes time to sort out,” he added.
Mitov also said that there has been a decline in road traumatism in the past few months of 2025. He noted an increase in traffic fines and tickets issued, as well as a rise in the revenue generated from them.
