Located just south of Sozopol and right next to the holiday village of Saint Thomas, Dunes-South Beach has been awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag for this summer season. This recognition highlights the beach's commitment to high environmental standards, including excellent seawater quality, safety, eco-friendly management, and the availability of visitor information.
The team responsible for preparing the beachfront told BTA that the beach would be fully ready by early June to welcome holidaymakers. Preparations are underway for areas with umbrellas and sun loungers, a medical station, and the mandatory free zone where beachgoers can set up their own gear.
Tourist safety will be ensured by several fully equipped lifeguard stations, scheduled to be operational from June 1. New pathways will provide easier access to the beachfront for people with reduced mobility. The restroom facilities have been renovated for added comfort.
According to apartment owners from the nearby holiday village, Dunes-South Beach is an ideal spot for learning to surf, thanks to its gently sloping shoreline and excellent conditions for water sports.
Nestled in a clean and unspoiled environment, Dunes-South Beach is bordered by natural landmarks such as the Alepu Swamp and Cape Saint Agalina, known among locals for its underwater caves. As a holder of the Blue Flag Award, Dunes-South meets all the standards for seawater quality, waste management, safety, medical infrastructure and sustainable operations, as observed by BTA's reporter. A waste separation system is in place, and regular beach cleaning will be carried out using dedicated equipment.
BTA is presenting all 30 Bulgarian beaches and harbours distinguished with the Blue Flag by the Programme’s international jury in Copenhagen. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the country’s first award – the pilot Blue Flag was raised at Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
