States of emergency have been declared in the US states of Washington and Oregon due to large-scale wildfires, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry reported through its Situation Centre on Wednesday. The Ministry advises Bulgarian citizens to avoid travel to areas affected by the fires unless absolutely necessary.

The Foreign Ministry also recommends limiting time spent outdoors in areas with severely polluted air, particularly for young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions. The use of high-efficiency air filters and air purifiers is also advised.

Numerous active wildfires across the northwestern United States, particularly in Washington and Oregon, continue to cause significant property damage. Local authorities have declared states of emergency and are carrying out large-scale evacuations. The most critical situations are in the Spokane area of Washington and around Stinkingwater Mountain in Oregon. Air quality warnings have been issued for nearly the entire state of Oregon, while hazardous air pollution levels have been recorded near Ochoco National Forest, the Foreign Ministry said.

Bulgarian citizens staying in the affected states are advised to regularly monitor the website of the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center (NWCC) for updates on the wildfires and response measures, including evacuation orders, road closures, and temporary shelter locations.
