The property housing the illegal fentanyl laboratory uncovered in Sofia belongs to the Agricultural Academy and was leased for five years in June 2024, the Academy said on Wednesday. The lease followed a regular tender, and the Academy published its position on its website.
The agreement was signed on June 26, 2024. Under its terms, the tenant must use the property solely for its intended purpose, may not sublet it to third parties and is responsible for activities carried out there.
The Academy will provide the investigating authorities with all necessary assistance, the position said.
On Tuesday, the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime raided a fentanyl laboratory, which supplied the territory of the entire country.
At a briefing, Acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Lyubomir Nikolov said the fentanyl came from a facility in Sofia’s Fakulteta borough. Three people were detained after attempting to flee by car. Police found EUR 300,000 in their homes during the operation.
Earlier on Wednesday, Sofia Municipality denied owning the property.
