On Thursday, Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov will officially inspect the progress of the accelerated construction of the Vertical Gas Corridor, a strategic energy initiative with international participation. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov has also been invited to attend, Stankov's Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
The inspection will take place in the village of Mikrevo in Strumyani Municipality. It is expected to be attended by government officials, ministers, and diplomats from the participating countries: Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Moldova.
The Vertical Gas Corridor is a large-scale infrastructure project aimed at enhancing energy security and supply continuity, while providing access to diversified natural gas sources for Bulgaria and the South-East European region. Bulgaria was the first country to take concrete steps to expand the capacity of its gas transmission network under this project, the press release said.
