The partnership agreement between the Shumen University and the Bulgarian news Agency (BTA) was officially renewed on Saturday with the signatures of BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and the Rector of the university Prof. Natalia Ivanova Vitanova-Marinova.
Valchev pointed out that the first agreement between the two institutions was signed in 2021, but it had a one-year term. The current contract, which is indefinite, sees that students from Shumen University will have internships at the BTA, and provides for the systematic provision of information by the university, which the agency will publish. Valchev specified that the materials from the university will also be used by BTA's English service.
BTA can promote Shumen University among the Bulgarian communities in Bessarabia, Valchev added. He stressed that the agency will also be a partner in all events surrounding the upcoming celebrations on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the university.
Vulchev provided Vitanova with copies of the earliest information published in BTA's feed on the university. The first one was dated June 14, 1974 and told about a student scientific expedition that followed the traces of the Bulgarians of Asparuh. He added that in 2024 there were 26 articles about the University in the agency and since the beginning of 2025 there are already 21. He said that with the signing of the contract the publications will become weekly.
Kiril Valchev added that the contract with Shumen University is the 41st that BTA has signed with Bulgarian universities and expressed confidence that by the end of the year BTA will have agreements with all 51 universities.
Vitanova expressed her satisfaction with the signing of the contract, pointing out that it will give the university a chance to present itself beyond the borders of the region. In addition, students will be able to enter a real working environment and gain practical skills as interns in the agency. She stressed that relations between the two institutions have traditionally been good and the agreement ensures that they will remain so in the future.
