site.btaCentral Bank Reduces Base Interest Rate for May to 2.24%

The Bulgarian National Bank Wednesday announced a base interest rate (simple per annum interest) of 2.24% as of May 1, 2025. This is yet another month for which the central bank reduces the base interest rate, which was set at 2.39% for April.

This is the lowest rate since March 2023, when it was 2.17%.

The last time the base interest rate was raised was back in September 2024, by 0.01 percentage points from August's 3.54%.

The base interest rate is mostly used when calculating the legal interest rate on debts to the State.
