During the upcoming fire hazard season, employees of the Fire Safety and Population Protection Directorate General will rely on four helicopters, its Director, Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, told journalists in Kazanlak. He attended the opening of the Innovation Days for Protecting Nature from Fires project. The event is organized by the University of Forestry and Kazanlak Municipality as part of the Innovative Technologies and Socio-ecological-economic Solutions for Fire Resilient Territories in Europe (FIRE-RES) project under the EU's Horizon 2020 programme.

Dzhartov said: "We have made preliminary arrangements with colleagues from the Air Force so that we are better organized right before the start of the fire hazard season."

Six tanks have been purchased to supply helicopters with water.

"We all know that climate change is a reality. The risk of forest fires is increasing, meaning that all the efforts we are making to acquire equipment might not be enough, and more should be invested in prevention," Dzhartov added.
