Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov called Bulgaria’s women’s chess team "beautiful minds" and promised support for the sport. Denkov was speaking to journalists at Sofia airport, where he welcomed the Bulgarian chess players who won the European women's title.
"We must learn to appreciate them and help them. I just wanted to show them that they have come into notice. It was really nice to see how much interest they attract. They deserve it," the Prime Minister said.
"There will be money for Bulgarian chess when the situation with the federations is sorted out. As you know, there is a problem with the federations. Only one of them has a license, which does not include these athletes. What is extremely important is that they managed to get together, to make a team for the European Championship, because this moment could have been missed. We have agreed with them to do a meeting by the end of the week to see what we can do about the federations," he said.
