Journalist Nahide Deniz Presents Documentary about Ataturk in Bulgarian Embassy in Ankara

Journalist Nahide Deniz presented on Tuesday her documentary on Mustafa Ataturk "The Sofia Years of Mustafa Kemal, 1913-1915" at the Bulgarian Embassy in Ankara.

The event was organized by the Balkan Immigrants Economic Research and Social Assistance Foundation in cooperation with the Bulgarian Embassy in Ankara.

Guests at the event included former Turkish Ambassador to Bulgaria Hasan Ulusoy, the film's director, Ufuk Karakas, Dean of the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography at Ankara University Prof. Dr. Levent Kayapanar, among others.

Prior to the screening of the film on Ataturk, Bulgaria's Ambassador to Turkiye, Angel Cholakov, pointed out that 2023 is an extremely symbolic year for Turkiye, as well as for the Bulgarian-Turkish friendship.

Ambassador Cholakov, adding that "friends are together not only in joy and success, but also in sorrow" and recalled the assistance provided by Bulgaria in the first hours after the devastating earthquakes in Turkiye on February 6.

While Hassan Ulusoy was Ambassador in Sofia he proposed to make a big film about Ataturk's years in the Bulgarian capital. And so this project was created. Turkish and Bulgarian historians came together in this film, said Nahide Deniz.

The film is about the lesser-known aspects of Ataturk's life, Deniz added.

The release of the film was within the framework of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye (the 100th anniversary of the Republic, proclaimed by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, was celebrated on October 29).

On February 2, 2023 (on February 2, 1915 Ataturk's term as military attaché in Sofia ended) a national press club of BTA was opened in the Turkish capital.
