A large fire broke out in the Sakar Mountain, near the villages of Pastrogor and Mladinovo in the Municipality of Svilengrad, on Saturday afternoon, the Haskovo Regional Administration said. As at Sunday evening, the fire is still raging on an area of 1,000 ha with dry grasses, bushes, and a forest on the territory of the villages of Pastrogor, Mladinovo, and Makovo in Svilengrad Municipality and in the village of Vaskovo, Lyubimets Municipality.
Thirteen firefighting teams, forestry officials, and volunteers remain on site. Strong winds have fanned up the fire.
Due to the scale of the wildfire, a state of emergency has been declared in the municipality of Svilengrad, Svilengrad Mayor Anastas Karchev told BTA on Sunday.
