site.btaUPDATED BOEC Association Leader Says He Was Illegally Wiretapped, Monitored
Leader of the BOEC anti-corruption movement Georgi Georgiev said he was illegally wiretapped and monitored during the protests in 2020.
He pointed out that these actions were ordered by the Prosecution office, the now closed specialized criminal court, the Interior Ministry and the State Agency for Technical Operations under the Council of Ministers.
About 2,900 of the permits granted were by act of the closed special court. Of these, just over 14,000 events were produced.
Gergiev said he had evidence of illegal wiretapping. He pointed out that in its 2020 annual report, published in 2021, the surveillance bureau said no violations had been found. Georgiev later received a document that an inspection had found evidence that he had not been illegally wiretapped.
According to the BOEC leader, his conversations with journalists were selectively recorded.
His lawyer, Metodi Lalov, said that a lawsuit would be filed for damages from the illegal wiretapping. The state should pay for it, he said.
