Crossborder Project Set to Promote Kabile Archaeological Reserve, Enez Castle in Turkiye

A joint cross-border project between the southern Bulgarian Tundzha Municipality and the Turkish counterpart Enez is designed to promote the historical sites of Kabile and Enez Castle, the leadership of the Bulgarian municipality told BTA.

Improvement of the areas around the Kabile archaeological Thracian settlement reserve and the Nativity of the Theotokos monastery, near the eponymous present-day-village; a farmer's market and charging stations for electric cars near the Trakia motorway are included in the plans. Easy access to the sites and the market offering local produce and the is also included in the project with a parking lot, a pedestrian path and a velo alley, all with solar lighting.

The two municipalities have applied for funding under INTERREG VI-A IPA Bulgaria-Turkiye Programme 2021-2027, Specific objective 1 “Achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth based on increased competitiveness of the local economy, digital and green transformation”. Enez Municipality plans to focus on the area around Enez Castle where it will also promote the Kabile archaeological reserve, Tundzha Deputy Mayor Svetozar Grozev said, adding that the reverse would be done at the latter. Enez Castle is estimated to date from the times of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.
