The Prosecution Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) appointed Supreme Court of Cassation Judge Elena Karakasheva to the position of Deputy Prosecutor General. The proposal was made by acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and was adopted with 8 votes in favour and none against. The decision of the magistrates comes into force on September 1, 2023.

When presenting his proposal, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov pointed out that he has known Elena Karakasheva for more than 20 years and described her as an extremely principled and valuable person and magistrate. He pointed out that Karakasheva had an enviable experience as an administrator and administrative head. "She is a good enough professional who has passed through all levels in the system," Sarafov said. In his words, Elena Karakasheva taking the position of Deputy Prosecutor General will not only give weight to the prosecutor's office itself, but also authority and stability to the institution.

Currently Borislav Sarafov has one deputy - Maria Pavlova. She was elected by the Prosecution Chamber on Sarafov's proposal on June 19.
