site.btaWorld Rowing Under 23 Championships Opens in Plovdiv
The World Rowing Championship for men and women under 23 officially opened in Plovdiv on Tuesday. The ceremony at the Summer Theatre was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Maria Gabriel, Minister of Youth and Sports Dimitar Iliev, Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv Georgi Tityukov, President of the Bulgarian Rowing Federation Svilen Neykov, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Championships Ivan Popov, Patrick Rombaut - member of the Executive Committee of the International Rowing Federation, as well as representatives of the countries that will take part in the Championship.
A total of 1,214 participants from 49 countries are coming to Plovdiv for the World Championship. This is the 12th championship of this rank, organized in Plovdiv.
"Thank you, Plovdiv, for the strong message you send to the whole world", Gabriel said during the official opening. "It shows the power of being together. Sport knows no borders, but unites with values," she added.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Dimitar Iliev highlighted the excellent conditions that Plovdiv offers for holding this type of competitions.
The World Championship will be held between July 19 and 23 at the Rowing Canal in Plovdiv, with free entry for spectators.
