The market price index (MPI), which reflects wholesale food prices, continued on its downward trend this last week, dropping by 1.81 points to 2.150, according to data from the Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets State Commission. The index level at the beginning of the year was 2.316 points. It then reached its spring high of 2.480 points in the first third of March.

The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Cherries appreciated by 8.9% and traded at BGN 4.40/kg. 

Imported apples went up by 1.7% to BGN 1.84/kg and lemons by 6.4% to BGN 2.84/kg, while bananas declined by 4.7% to BGN 2.81/kg.

With the exception of hothouse cucumbers, which went up by 9.2% to BGN 2.01/kg, vegetable prices dropped in the past week. Hothouse tomatoes went down by 12% and traded at BGN 2.79/kg. Potatoes depreciated by 7.8% and traded at BGN 1.19/kg, carrots by 1.7% to BGN 1.69/kg, and lettuce by 4.6%, selling at BGN 1.25 a piece. Cabbage also fell by 2.2% and traded at BGN 0.90/kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk increased by 0.8% and traded at BGN 11.3/kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese declined by 0.7% reaching BGN 17.48/kg.

Yoghurt (3 and above 3 % fat content) dropped by 3.4 %, with a 400 g container being bought for BGN 1.12, while fresh milk (3 % fat content) dropped by 0.5 % and traded at BGN 2.18/l.

Chicken lost 0.9% reaching BGN 6.63/kg. Size M eggs saw no change and traded at BGN 0.33 a piece.

Rice depreciated 1.8% and traded at BGN 3.31/kg, lentil appreciated by 1.4% and traded at BGN 4.22/kg.

Grade 500 flour went down by 6.9% and traded at BGN 1.34/kg.

Sunflower oil gained 4.1% and traded at BGN 3.08/l.

Butter went down by 4% and traded at BGN 2.63 per 125 g.

Sugar lost 2% and traded at BGN 2.44/kg.
