After Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Radostin Vasilev made public a recording on Friday which he claims was made at an online meeting of CC's National Council on May 21, caretaker Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev gave a briefing later in the day, at which he said: "The Interior Ministry never takes the liberty of recording, surveying or wiretapping people illegally. Nor will it take the liberty of doing so in future."

Demerdzhiev noted: "The Interior Ministry investigates crime suspects about whom there is evidence of offence."

He vowed that the Ministry will stay away from any war between public institutions or between politicians and institutions. "What we do and will continue to do is protect the rights and legal interests of Bulgarian citizens. The Interior Ministry will make every effort to safeguard law and order in this country," Demerdzhiev said.
