Bulgaria will take part in a global marathon of Sean Penn and Aaron Kaufman's film Superpower, part of the Humanity for Freedom initiative, APRA Porter Novelli said on Thursday.

“The government of Ukraine has supported the creation of a new international organization, Humanity for Freedom, which supports President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's courage and Ukraine's fight against authoritarianism,” the agency explained. The global non-profit organization is led by American political strategist Dane Waters and world-famous film director and producer Aaron Kaufman.

The initiative was launched with a global event titled "72 Hours for Freedom," which includes the worldwide broadcast of the documentary Superpower, co-directed by Sean Penn and Kaufman. The film aims to introduce viewers to the people for whom the Humanity for Freedom Foundation fights and to showcase the heroism of the Ukrainian President. It will be broadcast for 72 hours straight between June 6 and June 8, on six continents, in a number of countries, including Bulgaria.

In 2022, at the epicentre of hostilities in Ukraine, Penn and Kaufman visited the country six times to create a documentary portrait of Zelenskyy and his military leadership. Before it was fully completed, the documentary was selected to open the Berlinale International Film Festival (2023), where it received standing ovations and positive reviews.
