GERB leader Boyko Borissov arrived Thursday at the Sofia City Prosecution Office to be questioned about a case known as "Barcelonagate" and the allegations against him for abuse of power.
He entered the building's car park in a National Security Service vehicle without stopping for a comment to waiting journalists.
GERB members and supporters, as well as MPs from the GERB-UDF parliamentary group, had gathered in front of the building.
On the same day and hour Borissov was summoned for questioning at two locations. These are attempts to thwart the judicial reform as it is currently being discussed and the constitutional changes that are being discussed in Parliament, and an attempt to thwart the formation of a cabinet, GERB Deputy Chairman Daniel Mitov said. According to him, the presence of party members in front of the Prosecution Office is symbolic support for their leader and expresses a desire for the reform of the judiciary to continue.
In the words of the other deputy chairman of the party, Tomislav Donchev, GERB will continue to express their support for their leader in every way.
"There is nothing to worry about. The questions are the same as they were two years ago when he was questioned. There is nothing new. There is no embarrassment, just some routine procedure and the rest is an investigation, not even a pre-trial proceeding," Borissov's lawyer Menko Menkov told reporters after Borissov emerged from the interrogation at the Sofia City Prosecution Office.
Asked whether the GERB leader was questioned as a witness, Menkov confirmed.
Borissov once again refused to speak to the media.
"Go to Parliament to do your work," Borissov addressed GERB MPs before getting into his car.
