The Council of Ministers Wednesday approved the opening of the Prof. Ivan Dujcev Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies as an institute within Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski. It will conduct scientific research on the medieval cultural heritage of the Balkans: history, archaeology, literature, art, Slavic-Byzantine cultural traditions and the historical memory of the Balkan communities.
The new unit will support research in more areas of medieval studies and the humanities, expanding restoration and conservation activities and modernizing the work of scientists. The structure will also improve the quality of training for doctoral students and young specialists.
The institute will carry out research as well as expert work on the identification, preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Bulgaria. In its work, it will use modern digital technologies for the study of the Slavic-Byzantine cultural heritage.
