site.btaBulgaria's Foreign, Transport Ministers Discuss Connectivity with EU Commissioner for Enlargement

Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova, Transport and Communications Minister Georgi Peev, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, and members of the European Commission (EC) President's cabinet Wednesday discussed initiatives to strengthen connectivity between the European Union (EU), Southeast Europe, the Caucasus, and the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry reported. 

In Brussels, the Bulgarian ministers presented the country's vision for expanding transport, energy, and digital connectivity, highlighting the importance of both advancing existing infrastructure projects and launching new initiatives of common European interest.

The discussions also covered potential financing mechanisms, including public-private partnerships and European financial instruments.

Petrova and Peev said that enhanced transport connectivity and diversified energy supplies are essential to strengthening the European Union's economic resilience, energy security, and competitiveness. They noted that the development of new transport and energy corridors would contribute to the better integration of the Western Balkan countries, Ukraine, and Moldova into the European economic area, the Ministry added.

In late June, Peev took part in the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland, where discussions focused on transport connectivity and the strategic Middle Corridor. On the sidelines of the conference, he met with European Commissioner Kos, Polish Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak, and representatives of ZUE, one of Poland's leading railway infrastructure companies.
