The Ukrainian port city of Odesa came under a Russian missile attack on Saturday, with preliminary reports indicating casualties, the head of the city's military administration, Serhiy Lysak, said on his Telegram channel on Monday.
He specified that Russian forces targeted infrastructure facilities.
"Two people were killed and a 24-year-old man was injured as a result of today's rocket attack on Odesa, according to preliminary information. I offer my condolences to the families of the victims," said Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper on Telegram.
The missile was launched from the Black Sea at 10:46 a.m. EEST. Several minutes later, an explosion was heard in the city.
Bulgarians in the Odesa region number more than 150,000 and were the third largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, according to the official census. About 50,000 - 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
