Actor Daniel Peev-Dundi and 11-year-old Desislava Kostadinova were honoured at the annual Worthy Bulgarians awards ceremony organized by newspaper 24 Chasa on Wednesday.

President Iliana Iotova presented awards to the two Bulgarians who helped raise funds for medical treatment for cancer patients in two separate initiatives.

Desislava Kostadinova managed to raise funds by selling hand-made bracelets in Varna, on the Black Sea, while Daniel Peev-Dundi recently won a reality show and donated the prize.

At the ceremony, Iotova noted that there are many worthy Bulgarians, who deserve to be known, and that they are often not outspoken and do not seek the spotlight, but their actions are important.

24 Chasa media platform publisher Venelina Gocheva presented Iotova with a specially produced page from a collector's edition of the newspaper. Gocheva noted Iotova had been the first public figure to support the Worthy Bulgarians initiative years ago.
