“We are increasingly focusing on transforming our ports from isolated hubs into modern intermodal logistics centers,” Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova said at the Green Transition Forum 6.0, which is held at the Sofia Event Centre. The event is organized by Dir.bg, and the Bulgarian News Agency is among the forum’s media partners.

Deputy Minister Natova noted that the ministry’s main priorities are centered on connectivity, interoperability, and the integration of European transport corridors. A key objective is to create a transport system in which different modes of transport work seamlessly together rather than function as separate networks.

Natova stressed that it is important to focus not only on new construction but also on the modernization and maintenance of infrastructure.

Of green investments in ports, Natova said that the greening of ports is a major priority for the Ministry of Transport, but it is very important to maintain a certain level of flexibility. She noted that the Transport Connectivity Programme has allocated nearly EUR 28 million for oil and gas infrastructure in ports, although discussions are ongoing about where it would be most sensible to make these investments.

Deputy Minister Natova said that Bulgaria is a leader in traffic management in the Black Sea region and is also among the leaders in the implementation of high-tech systems in the maritime sector. “We have systems that enable streamlined electronic exchange of documentation among the various stakeholders in the logistics chain,” she explained. She added that improving and streamlining data sharing enhances competitiveness and optimizes processes.

Natova also said that work is underway on a similar system for river ports, which is expected to be introduced next year.
