The Prosecutors' Chamber of Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council on Wednesday postponed personnel decisions because of proposed amendments to the Judicial System Act currently being debated in Parliament.
On Tuesday, Parliament's legal affairs committee approved at first reading three draft bills that would limit the powers of Supreme Judicial Council members whose mandates have expired. All three proposals envisage that members with expired mandates should not vote on appointment decisions or adopt long-term measures.
The proposal submitted by Progressive Bulgaria additionally states that a council whose mandate expired more than a year ago should not make appointments unless absolutely necessary.
The first item on Wednesday's agenda was the election of a district prosecutor for the Haskovo District Prosecution Office, but the vote was postponed until next week.
