Georgi Valchev has been proposed as Minister of Education in the draft Cabinet of Rumen Radev.

Prof Dr Georgi Valchev is Rector of Sofia University, elected to the position in November 2023. He is an established scholar and expert in cultural studies and history, with long-standing management experience in the academic sphere.

Between 2015 and 2023 he served as Vice-Rector for Educational Activities (doctoral programmes and continuing education) at Sofia University. His professional career at the university also includes the positions of head of the Department of History and Theory of Culture (2011 – 2019) and academic secretary of the Faculty of Philosophy. He is the founder and head of the master's programme Management and Socialization of Cultural Heritage.

He is the author of numerous significant academic publications and monographs. His research interests are focused on the public uses of history and the management of cultural processes.

Prof Valchev holds master's degrees in history and philosophy from Sofia University. In 1998 he obtained the academic degree of doctor at the Centre for Cultural Studies. In 2023 he was elected professor in the University's Department of History and Theory of Culture. He speaks French and Russian.
