Vratsa Municipality will apply for funding under the Environment Programme 2021–2027 for the Prevention of Flood Risk along the Skat River project, the municipal councilors decided at a meeting on Tuesday.
The procedure aims to implement preventive and protective measures in areas at risk of flooding. It finances environmentally friendly flood protection measures, including natural water retention and green infrastructure, aimed at reducing the risk to the population, infrastructure and the environment, according to the report submitted by Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov.
The municipalities of Vratsa, Borovan, Byala Slatina, Mizia each are preparing an independent project proposal, while the regional administration is participating as an associated partner without financial commitment. "The agreement that will be signed does not entail additional financial commitments," Vratsa Deputy Mayor Tsvetan Stoichkov specified.
The maximum amount of the project is over EUR 2.1 million, with no co-financing being required. The deadline for submitting the project proposal is June 2, 2026, and the implementation is planned for a period of 36 months.
