Bulgarian caretaker Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky and Croatia's Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlic Radman discussed on Tuesday the situation in the Middle East and the need for consistent coordination of European policies in the field of foreign relations and security. The two ministers spoke within the framework of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, which was held in Luxembourg, the press centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The two sides stressed the importance of preserving the unity of the European Union, based on common values, principles and strict adherence to international law. It was stressed that in conditions of increasing global instability, it is the unified European approach that remains key to effective response to crises and to protecting the EU's strategic interests.

During the meeting, agreement was reached on the need to strengthen diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation in the Middle East and prevent further escalation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added. Neynsky and Radman confirmed the importance of close coordination between member states within the framework of the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy.
