The National Assembly will most likely be convened next week, once the election results and the names of the 240 elected members of Parliament have been officially announced, President Iliana Iotova told reporters on Monday. She recalled that the deadline for the Central Election Commission to announce the April 19 election results is April 26, expressing hope that the Commission would complete its work earlier.
The President congratulated the Bulgarian citizens who exercised their voting right, emphasizing that many of them did so with the conviction that their vote would not be influenced by practices such as vote-buying and influence peddling. In her words, this is a sign of growing trust in the electoral process.
Iotova also noted that the higher voter turnout can be explained by people’s confidence that institutions, including the Interior Ministry, are working to curb election violations. “People have come to believe that Bulgaria can have normal, transparent, and well-organized elections,” she said, extending her congratulations to the institutions involved in the process.
