site.btaSofia to Host Academic Session for 150th Anniversary of April Uprising

A Ceremonial Academic Session dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876 will take place in Sofia on Monday.

The April Uprising was an entirely Bulgarian undertaking whose outcome marked the irreversible consolidation of the Bulgarian nation in its struggle for freedom, the St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University said.

To commemorate this significant event in Bulgarian history, Sofia University, the State Archives Agency, the G.S. Rakovski National Defence College, the St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo, the St Cyril and St Methodius National Library and the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are organizing an academic session dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876.

The initiative will begin at 11 am with a ceremony at the National Defence College and will continue at 1 pm in the Rectorate of Sofia University with the opening of the academic session. Historians will hold a discussion in two panels dedicated to the landmark anniversary.

The joint event will continue at 5 pm with the opening of the exhibition "For the Freedom of a Nation" at the National Library, staged by the National Library and the State Archives Agency.

At 1.45 pm, a poster exhibition dedicated to the April Uprising will open in the foyer on the second floor of the Rectorate of Sofia University. The exhibition is authored by Asst. Prof. Vladimir Terziev.
