Nearly 1.3 million eggs from Turkiye, intended for processing (Class B), were stopped at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint and sent back due to inconsistencies in the documentation, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said. The total quantity of eggs returned to Turkiye amounts to around 82 tons, transported by four trucks with Turkish registration plates.
Inspectors made the decision due to discrepancies in the documents accompanying the shipment. During the inspection, an address of a recipient company in Bulgaria was listed. However, there is no processing facility at that location, which is a mandatory requirement for accepting such eggs, the statement said.
According to current legislation, Class B eggs cannot be offered on the retail market and are intended solely for processing in licensed processing facilities.
Earlier this week, the BFSA also announced that over 370 tons of food products from third countries were not allowed entry into Bulgaria through the EU external borders from the beginning of March to April 5, BTA reported. A total of 51 shipments were stopped following official veterinary and phytosanitary inspections by BFSA inspectors. Most of them were at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.
