The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) can offer support but will never be subordinate, party leader Krum Zarkov said at a meeting with party members and supporters in Razgrad, northeastern Bulgaria, on Tuesday.
He noted that the political situation in the country remains complex and that after the elections it is possible to see either another vote or difficult coalition negotiations.
According to Zarkov, BSP is ready to participate in various governing configurations and seek cooperation, but only on the basis of transparency, mutual respect and equality.
He added that for BSP, April 19 marks the beginning of a long-term plan, including preparations for the presidential and local elections. "At the local elections, BSP will firmly return among the leading political forces in Bulgaria," he said.
At the meeting, candidates for members of parliament from the 18th multi-member constituency of Razgrad were also presented. Top-of-the-list candidate Nikolay Penchev said that the problems facing Razgrad and Bulgaria are clear and require strong left-wing governance.
He stressed that the party's strength comes from public support and its commitment to ordinary citizens.
