The Central Government sub-sector posted a deficit of EUR 781 million and the Social Security Funds sub-sector a deficit of EUR 52 million in February 2026, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on its website on Monday. Central Government recorded EUR 2.284 billion in revenues and EUR 3.065 billion in expenditures, while Social Security Funds posted EUR 1.615 billion in revenues and EUR 1.666 billion in expenditures.
The year began with EUR 2.813 billion in revenues and EUR 2.921 billion in expenditures for Central Government, while Social Security Funds recorded EUR 1.572 billion in revenues and EUR 1.548 billion in expenditures. This left Central Government with a January deficit of EUR 109 million and Social Security Funds with a surplus of EUR 25 million.
NSI noted that the data for Central Government are based on the monthly cash statements of budget units and estimates for state enterprises reclassified into the sub-sector, while the data for Social Security Funds are based on the monthly cash statements of the National Social Security Institute and the National Health Insurance Fund.
