National Palace of Culture Marks 45th Anniversary with Festive Programme

The National Palace of Culture (NDK) is celebrating 45 years since its founding with a festive programme under the patronage of Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova, the cultural institution’s team said on Tuesday.

The celebrations begin on Tuesday with the opening of the exhibition Boyana Church. At the Dawn of Renaissance. at 5:30 pm in the Central Foyer on the first floor. The exhibition presents significant examples of Bulgarian iconography and highlights the global importance of Boyana Church, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The evening will culminate with a festive gala concert Symphony of Time at 7:00 pm in Hall 1, featuring Lili Ivanova and the Sofia Philharmonic, conducted by Nayden Todorov. Welcoming addresses will be delivered by President Iotova, caretaker Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov, and NDK Executive Director Andriana Petkova.

The anniversary celebrations at NDK will continue over the following days. On Wednesday, the exhibition Layers of Colour will open at Gallery 33, featuring works by leading Bulgarian artists. On Thursday, the retrospective exhibition The Construction of Sofia Citizens will be presented at the Lovers’ Bridge. On the same day, the film Etude for Beauty Within will be screened at Lumiere Cinema, followed by a discussion.

The programme offers a combination of music, visual arts, and cinema, highlighting the NDK’s role as a centre of Bulgaria’s cultural life over the past 45 years, the organizers said.
