site.btaIkar Awards to Be Presented on International Theatre Day in Sofia

On the evening of Friday, International Theatre Day,  the Union of Bulgarian Actors will presents its Ikar Awards. The ceremony will take place at the National Theatre. This year’s motto – Love against the Odds– is a reference to a film, Da obichash na inat, by writer/director Nikolay Volev (1946–2024) whose 80th birth anniversary is marked this year,

Some award winners and nominations in all categories were announced earlier this year. Pop singer Veselin Marinov will receive an Ikar for entertainment and stage art, selected by the Guild of Entertainment Stage Arts, for his contribution to promoting Bulgarian music culture.

The Ikar for circus arts, presented by the Guild of Circus Artists, goes to Nencho Ilchev for his contribution to the development and popularization of illusion art, as well as for creating the Museum of Magic.

The Act-Unima award for significant contribution to the development of Bulgarian puppetry is awarded to Prof. Doychina Sinigerska, while the award for teaching goes to Prof. Bonyo Lungov.

The Ikar for honor and dignity is awarded to Assoc. Prof. Maria Dimanova, and the award for outstanding contribution to Bulgarian theatre goes to Aneta Sotirova.

The Ikar for variety art, presented by the Guild of Variety Art, goes to Yordan Dimitrov Yanev-Zain.

The main Ikar nominations were determined by a committee consisting of Albena Pavlova (actress), Ventsislav Mitsov (composer), Zafir Radzhab (director), Dr. Ilko Ganev (theatre scholar), Maria Dimanova (set designer), Dr. Rumyana Nikolova (theatre scholar), and Plamen Manasiev (actor).

Awards will be given in the following categories: Debut; Supporting Actor; Supporting Actress; Lead Actress; Lead Actor; Directing; Set and Costume Design; Technical Achievement; Original Music; Playwriting; Critical Writing; Achievement in Puppetry; Puppet Performance; Contemporary Dance and Performance; Dubbing/Voice Acting.

President Iliana Iotova will be attending the event, the Presidential Press Secretariat said.
