Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov conferred with the Heads of Mission of the European Union Member States at the invitation of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council, the Bulgarian government said on Facebook on Tuesday.
Gurov briefed the diplomats on the caretaker government’s preparations for the early parliamentary elections on April 19, stressing that ensuring a fair and transparent vote is a top priority. He said a policy of “zero tolerance” toward electoral violations is being applied so that every Bulgarian citizen can be confident their vote will be counted lawfully.
In his remarks, the PM also highlighted steps taken to restore legality within the prosecuting magistracy and curb practices linked to “parallel justice”, with the aim of strengthening a transparent and independent judicial system.
Gurov said that the National Assembly has adopted an extension of the state budget, while the government is already working on the framework for the 2026 budget.
Developments in the Middle East and their impact on Bulgaria were also discussed. The government had to act swiftly to introduce measures to mitigate the effects of rising global prices, which are also affecting the domestic market, he said.
The meeting also covered key topics from the latest European Council agenda, including the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as the potential risk of increased migration pressure. Gurov thanked the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Sofia, Haralambos Kafkaridis, for organizing the meeting and reaffirmed Bulgaria’s role as a stable and reliable partner in Europe.
