A1 Motor Park, the most modern racing circuit in Eastern Europe and the largest in the Balkans, was inaugurated near Samokov, southwestern Bulgaria, on Saturday.
The event brought together dozens of people from the world of motorsports, business representatives, investors from Glavbolgarstroy, officials from the Samokov Municipality, and well-known public figures. Among the guests were caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports Dimitar Iliev and his deputy, Daniela Dasheva.
Speeches were delivered by Kalin Peshov, Chair of the Management Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding; Dimitar Tsotsorkov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Assarel-Medet and co-investor in the project; and Zara Kiziryan, project manager and CEO of GBS Energy Solutions. Samokov Mayor Angel Dzhorgov also addressed the audience, noting that the town has long been on Bulgaria’s and Europe’s sports map, but can now proudly call itself the country’s sports capital.
The track is four kilometers long, with a width of 12 meters on the straights and 15 meters in the corners. It can accommodate between 25,000 and 30,000 spectators. The groundbreaking took place on March 10, 2025, and construction began a week later, according to the event hosts.
The first to take to the track was Bulgaria’s top racing driver, Nikola Tsolov. The event continued with a car race, a motorshow, a drift show, and a stunt show.
