More than 100 households in Veliko Tarnovo and nearby settlements were affected by the severe flooding in the area, and state financial assistance is expected to be provided, Mayor Daniel Panov said on his official Facebook page. Panov said he had met with Labour and Social Policy Deputy Minister Nadya Klisurska, who assured him that authorities would act as quickly as possible to provide timely support to affected residents.
On Monday afternoon, joint teams from the municipality and the Social Assistance Directorate will visit affected households to prepare the reports and documentation required for compensation payments.
Three types of cumulative assistance will be available: up to EUR 1,171 if the damaged property is the residents’ primary home and registered as their current address, and up to EUR 1,550 in additional support if the property is their only residence. A further amount of up to EUR 1,300 will be granted for damaged household appliances and furnishings. Ownership details have already been clarified for 65% of the affected properties.
Panov urged the interdepartmental commission on disasters and emergencies to convene as soon as possible in order to begin the rapid restoration of damaged streets, roads and bridges, as well as the cleaning of riverbeds.
