The social system has undergone very significant development in recent years, State Agency for Child Protection Deputy Chair Ivaila Kasarova said here on Tuesday during the IV World Social Work Day Forum.

Over the past 25 years, Bulgaria has gone through a process of deinstitutionalization and the development of social services, she noted.

Kasarova stressed that social workers have always been and will remain the backbone of the system. She highlighted the need to support their education, practical training and opportunities for professional development, as well as to ensure adequate pay.

Efforts should also be made to raise the profession of social worker to one of the most desirable and prestigious careers, she added.
