A new exhibition titled "Christo and Jeanne-Claude - New Works" is on at the Vivacom Art Hall in Sofia, showing 17 previously unseen works by the artistic duo.  Some of the works contain a very personal element and are linked to more intimate and emotional moments from Christo’s so-called Bulgarian connection, Denitsa Gergova, art director of Vivacom Art Hall, told BTA on Tuesday.

The exhibition includes pieces related to some of Christo’s most famous projects. During the exhibition, visitors can watch a short film introducing the two artists. Vivacom Art Hall is the only place where these works can be purchased, and part of the collection has already been sold even before the opening, Gergova explained.

"There is also a painting - a drawing by Christo and Jeanne-Claude - from our personal collection, belonging to me and my husband. When we bought it, Christo said we were the first Bulgarians to have purchased an original painting directly from his studio. This piece will be on display only today," Denitsa Gergova said.

Admission to the exhibition is free.

The exhibition features works tracing key moments in the creative path of the two artists. Visitors will also be able to see a special 3D mapping wall projecting iconic moments from their projects.

All works are hand-signed by Christo and are presented as collector pieces.

The exhibition will run until April 10.

The exhibition continues the gallery’s mission to present major international artists and once again highlights the work of some of the most influential creators of the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2021, the Sofia public had the opportunity to see a selection of original lithographs, posters and drawings dedicated to the project of wrapping the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, as well as works related to landmark projects such as The Gates in New York, The Pont Neuf Wrapped in Paris, and The Umbrellas, realized simultaneously in the United States and Japan.

The new exhibition builds on that success with works revealing both the monumental scale and the more intimate side of the artists' visual language - from early conceptual ideas to their large-scale projects in urban and natural environments.

"As part of the exhibition, a special lecture dedicated to the joint legacy of the two artists will also take place at Dom.In.O5 Art Club. The event will offer an in-depth look at their concepts, the complex technical process and the global cultural impact of their projects," the gallery team added.
