The Coordination Centre under the Euro Adoption Mechanism will hold its regular weekly briefing on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Council of Ministers building, the government press service said.

During the briefing, Vladimir Ivanov, Chair of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets and head of the coordination centre, will present updated data on the process of introducing the euro in Bulgaria.

The transition to the euro is almost complete, Ivanov said at last Monday’s briefing on March 2, noting that 87% of lev banknotes have already been withdrawn, while around BGN 3.9 billion still remain in the hands of citizens. According to him, part of the remaining levs will never be withdrawn, as there is always such a percentage that stays in circulation.

At the briefing, he also reported that the consumer basket retained its value from the previous week at EUR 57. In the same period last year, it stood at EUR 53, which means an increase of EUR 4, Ivanov said.
