GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote on his official Facebook page that Bulgaria needs a clear energy strategy and an active role in ensuring Europe's energy security. Borissov added that in the conditions of a dynamic international environment and accelerated energy transition, nuclear energy remains a key factor for stability, predictability and low-carbon development. He pointed out that with a consistent policy and strategic partnerships, Bulgaria can strengthen its positions both in the region and within the European Union. 

The post says that he expressed his position at a meeting with Bernard Fontana, chair of EDF (Electricite de France), the state-owned energy company of France, and Marie Dumoulin, French Ambassador to Bulgaria. According to the post, the role of nuclear energy for Europe's energy security, the strategic importance of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant for the Bulgarian energy system and the need for diversified supplies of nuclear fuel were also discussed. 

Borissov also stated that France is an undisputed leader in the development of nuclear technologies and has many years of experience in the construction and management of nuclear power plants, which opens up opportunities for closer cooperation between EDF and the Bulgarian energy sector. According to him, energy independence and the development of nuclear energy are key to the sustainable development and competitiveness of European economies.
