On Wednesday, the National Assembly will debate the veto that President Iliana Iotova imposed on February 11 on amendments to the Election Code that limit to 20 the number of voting sections in any country which is not an EU Member State, not counting the voting sections at Bulgarian embassies and consulates.

The National Assembly Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee on Tuesday voted, 11-8 with one abstention, to reject Iotova’s veto.

Parliament’s agenda for Wednesday also includes the adoption of procedural rules governing the nomination of a candidate for deputy governor in charge of the Issue Department of the Bulgarian National Bank. Earlier in February, Andrey Gurov resigned from the post after being sworn in before the National Assembly as caretaker Prime Minister.

Lawmakers are also scheduled to hold a second reading of amendments to the Social Insurance Code and to the Public Offering of Securities Act.

In addition, MPs are expected to ratify the agreement between the government of Bulgaria and the UNESCO on designating the Centre for Underwater Archaeology as a Category 2 institute under UNESCO, to be named Institute for Underwater Heritage.
