In the third quarter of 2025, revenues in Bulgaria's general government sector amounted to BGN 22,293.8 million (EUR 11,398.7 million) and expenditures totalled BGN 23,793.8 million (EUR 12,165.6 million). This resulted in a deficit of BGN 1,500.0 million (EUR 766.9 million), the National Statistical Institute reported on Tuesday.

Back in the second quarter of 2025, the general government sector reported a deficit of BGN 848.7 million (EUR 434 million), and in the first quarter of 2025, the deficit was BGN 1.797,2 million (EUR 919 million).

The data on revenues, expenditures and deficit/surplus of the general government sector are based on cash reports and trial balances on an accrual basis of the budgetary units, as well as quarterly data on the public enterprises reclassified in the sector, calculated by sub-sectors (central government, local government and social security funds). The deficit/surplus of the general government sector is equal to the sum of the deficit/surplus of the sub-sector, while the total revenue and expenditure are consolidated between the sub-sectors.
