The ship’s crew, in cooperation with the personnel of the Spanish base, carried out cargo-handling operations to unload the supplies transported by RSV 421, which had been loaded on board in Cartagena, Kingdom of Spain. The base received materials for the construction of a new research laboratory, as well as a mobile diesel generator to provide its power supply.
Also, field samples were collected for research projects conducted by scientists from Montenegro and Romania. After the successful completion of the joint activities, members of the crew of RSV 421 visited the Spanish base Gabriel de Castilla. In turn, the base commander and members of its staff boarded the vessel for a working breakfast.
The research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii continues to support scientific activities as part of the 34th Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition to Livingston Island.
The 34th scientific expedition began its main work after the Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island reopened in mid-November. In the area of South Bay on Livingston Island, the international team of scientists, with the help of the expedition’s logistics team, will be collecting samples for several scientific projects.
RSV 421 set sail for the icy continent from the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Varna on November 7.
