Yambol will host the 27th Kukerlandia International Masquerade Festival from February 26 to March 1, according to the festival’s official website.
The forum is described as a unique Bulgarian event that preserves and promotes the country’s intangible cultural heritage, marking Bulgaria’s presence on the global cultural map in a distinctive way. This year’s edition will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Bulgaria’s membership in UNESCO, in line with the goals of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Kukerlandia is organized by the municipalities of Yambol and Tundzha and has long been held under the auspices of the Culture Ministry and the Tourism Ministry. The programme features carnival parades, concerts, exhibitions, and creative workshops, among others.
The highlight of the festival will be the competitive parades of masked participants, traditionally held on the final two days - Saturday and Sunday. In 2025, the event drew more than 6,500 participants.
