Aleksandar Vulin, founder of the Socialist Movement and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Srbijagas, said that President Aleksandar Vucic's decision for Serbia not to take part in the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels on December 17 would be supported by the overwhelming majority of Serbs, Serbian media report.

Late on December 16, President Vucic announced that he would not attend the EU-Western Balkans Summit, but stressed that, for as long as he is President of Serbia, the country will continue to pursue the path of European integration.

Commenting on Vucic's decision, Aleksandar Vulin, who is known for his pro-Russian views and active contacts with the Russian Federation, said that any distancing of Serbia from the EU is a step closer to Russia and China.

"The topic of the meeting in Brussels will not be EU enlargement, but Serbia's refusal to become part of the military coalition against Russia," Vulin told Serbia's Tanjug news agency.

Until April 16, Vulin served as Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Milos Vucevic, which resigned at the end of January 2025 following an attack by supporters of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) on protesting students in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad. Vulin then failed to secure a post in the new cabinet headed by the non-partisan Djuro Macut.
