National Library Director Kalina Ivanova highlighted the modernization of the storage facilities as one of the most urgent tasks facing the institution. On Wednesday, the National Library celebrated its 147th anniversary.

Currently, the premises do not have the necessary air conditioning and ventilation, and the shelves are outdated. Projects are to be developed to implement specialized systems, improve accessibility, and resolve issues related to the sustainability of the building.

"This is the moment to share our plan for '150 Years of the National Library'. In just three years, in 2028, Bulgaria's oldest cultural institution will celebrate a century and a half. In order to celebrate this occasion in a dignified manner, with renovated storage facilities and a modernized environment, we will launch a donation programme and account to raise funds for everything I have listed," said Ivanova.
